Höchste Zeit für eine Hochzeit

This project found it’s origin in my frustration of not being able to connect with people out side my own “social bubble”.
I came to Zurich in the hope to meet different people. Instead I realised that the “social bubble” of a theatre school in Amsterdam or in Zurich are not so different. There are the same kind of people, knowing the same autors and having more or less the same opinion. I felt a true urge to connect with people outside of this “theatre bubble”. So I organised/directed a symbolic wedding between ‘the self’ and ‘the other’. A wedding is an event everybody can relate to or has a feeling with unlike theatre. There for it was the perfect neutral ground for strangers to meet. For two weeks I walked the streets to start conversations with strangers to invite them for this wedding. I went to church groups, refugee shelters, and the Christmas market. The event had three layers: There was the layer of the wedding, which I had directed, with live classical piano, speeches of relatives and the vows of the pair. Then there was the layer where I tried to let the audience connect with one and an other. There where ongoing games that asked for interaction. And finally I had three moments that I called the injections of content. Three experts on ‘social bubbles’ each with their own angle, they reflected on the topic in a short 10 min interview. There was a pensioned priest, a former city planner whom had started a school for refugees and a right wing orientated politician. After the whole ceremony there was a huge party.
